The Cat 4 women finally had a race of their own this time, with 7 women (!) showing up to race, mostly local gals including Brooke, myself, Melissa (who rides often during the week), and Christina (Darryl's wife). The course was awesome, plenty of smooth downhill cornering, and it
took a few laps to figure out which "line" to take, and what gearing was necessary to crest all those rolling hills. After a few laps, Stacey Davis (local mountain biker who was racing her first road race), Brooke and I pulled ahead and basically rotated out the remaining laps. Brooke and I pulled away in the final lap, with an all-out sprint in the end, and Brooke's excellent surge edging me out in the very last seconds..... ;) I'm just happy it was a BBC girl going in for the win!
I can't give as detailed an account for the 1/2/3 women, but I can tell you it was a great race from the sidelines. Maaike, Kelly, Lisa, and the gal from Athens (don't know her name....) were the field, and the ladies raced strong the entire time, which was a feat in that wind! The results
ended up being Athens Girl/Kelly/Maaike/Lisa....(who was still in the money! ;) I think we did a great job representing, showing in strong numbers.
