Heather Ladd wins class at Attack on Swayback

Heather Ladd places first in the women's class at Attack on Swayback on Sunday April 20th.  She outpedaled opponents Stacey Davis and Lila Bowers for the win. Congrats and good work, Heather!

In Heather's words, "Swayback Bridge Trail is a beautiful 8 - 9 miles of twisting single track with a bit of fireroad.  A couple miles of the trail has you riding a ridge along scenic Jordan Lake.  The trail isn't very technical and has very little sustained climbing like you get at Oak Mountain, but there are plenty of roller coaster type hills including a section called 'The Zippa'.  Riding it made me want to shout weeeeeeeee as I rode up and down."

BooKoo Harriers Brave Rain, Mud at Chickasaw Trace

The peanut-buttery mud mess of a course at the Chickasaw Trace Classic in Columbia, TN on Sunday, March 30, 2008 was nothing to BooKoo rider Will Forbes who finished 1st in his age category and 9th in sport 19-29.  Here he (207) demonstrates his skills on the steep, muddy ravine that saw spills by many riders, including the author.

Will Forbes 033008

Saturday's rain made the course so slick, even the most skilled riders were on and off their bikes making it more of a cyclocross race than a mountain bike race.  Heather Ladd was running in third among sport women with 5 miles to go until a mechanical forced her to abandon.  Her husband, Steve Erickson, finished 8th in the singlespeed category.

Kudos to race organizers for a great event.
